Chaos And Bang Your Earballs #7

Like this picture, this episode was fucking awesome.  In it,
  • I issue a public apology to Mark Rippetoe,
  • addressed a hilarious thread on Starting Strength
  • announce that I actually joined Facebook (www.facebook.com/chaosandpain) and have yet to eat a bullet over it,
  • announced my new supplements in development (which you can read about on the FB page as well),
  • discussed Paul's new book and the one on which I'm working,
  • discussed Westside methods for raw lifters,
  • covered a retarded article on squatting,
  • and hit a bunch of other minor shit over the course of about 90 minutes.
Check it.  If you want to download it, here's the download.

CORRECTION, SO I DON'T GET SUED:  Ricky Dale Crain is not a diddler.  His unbelievably ugly wife is, though.
Sweet jesus.

In the show I also mentioned a crazy vid of Misha Kolkaev deadlifting 753 for 10, and here's that video.

... and the video of Klokov presses we discussed.  I will blog about this exercise in the near future, because it's the unadulterated balls.

  1. Unrelated, I just thought you might find this funny. I made a post on reddit describing how I had been experiencing lower back pain from high frequency beltless deadlifting, but when I did a few very heavy deadlift lockouts my back pain was magically fixed, much to my surprise. I invited them to speculate as to why this might have occurred. My post got deleted, because a mod was afraid that it might encourage someone with back pain to lift heavy. God forbid, right?

  2. You really wanna break that raw record don't you? Remember to focus on the journey, not the fucking destination man.

    1. I see what you did there. Yeah, I do. I am enjoying the journey, though.

  4. I fucking love Misha. He's brutally strong, and seems like the nicest guy too. It sucks all his videos are in Russian with no subs, because I'm sure he's speaking some gold about training and whatnot in them.

    1. I think what you're asking is what haven't Paul or I gotten jobs in the fitness industry. We'll cover that in the next show.

    2. I'm fairly certain that "Best Business Brands" is a spam bot

    3. Are you a fucking idiot, Tom?

    4. "I'm fairly certain" is British understatement. I knew it was a spam bot. Unless you're suggesting it's not a spam bot, in which case I'm fairly confident it's you who's the fucking idiot.

    5. No, I'm not suggesting it's a real person.

  6. Jamie,
Have you thought about logging your training sessions here kinda of like Paul does?
It would make some awesome content for the blog.

    1. I hate logging my training sessions. I never write shit down in the gym, and feel like I have to put on a show if I make my workouts public. If I have a particularly good lift, though, I'll try to get it posted.

    2. You could write sets, reps and rest. Weights only when you really feel proud of something or none at all.

      Delete
    3. Yeah, that´s kind of what I meant, not really writing up all numbers and such.
Just a general idea of what you did that day.

    4. Still a massive pain in the ass. That shit takes time, and I'm running short of that of late. The articles I write are intensely time consuming. Then there's training. When I get home, the very last thing I want to do is write about what I did.

  7. I zoned out for bit but if you didn't mention it in the audio.....more cannibalism:

  8. Jamie, what are your and Paul's overall opinions of strongman? Would either of you ever decide to pursue strongman instead of PL? Also, how could I incorporate some strongman training into my sessions when I train heavy 3 times a week with random sessions in between?

  9. Totally not covered in the podcast but thought you would like this.

    1. That was interesting. Not sure if it was entirely accurate, but the author could certainly be onto something.

    2. I stumbled across it recently and its fascinating to me yet I have no idea what others think of his theories. He has a website and book. http://www.themandus.org/

    3. He's been compared to Erick von Daniken, which is not a compliment. I might pick up his book at some point, though, since I have read von Daniken, David Hatcher Childress, Zecheria Sitchin, and Graham Hancock. Might as well round out the insanity.

    4. The von Daniken comparison is definitely not good. Speaking of von Daniken are you planning on checking out Prometheus this weekend?

    5. Of course. I'll be reviewing it in the next CnB.

  10. Love the podcast Jamie. I really appreciate all the training talk; these days its so hard to find out anything worthwhile. When I started lifting a few years ago, I immediately decided I needed to get educated, and the first things I found were Joe Weider's "Ultimate Bodybuilding" and Stuart McRobert's "Build Muscle, Lose Fat, Look Great". Then I did Westside for a while (raw, not knowing it was almost useless that way). Thank goodness I found your blog. Anyways, I'm excited for the supplement coming out. I'll probably buy it; however, what is your opinion on cold-processing protein and organic protein (based on the theory that most stuff is full of xenoestrogens)? Do you think those ideas are just marketing shenanigans, or actually have some basis in truth? And if so, are they significant?

    1. and holy shit, who is the girl you posted at the top of this post?

      Delete
    2. Quite frankly, I've never heard of xenoestrogens in protein. Phytoestrogens in soy, but no xenoestrogens. I was preoccupied with environmental estrogens for about two months a few years ago, and then realized that such a preoccupation would lead one to insanity. If it bothers you, take clomid. Otherwise, find something else to worry about.

  13. Rippetoe is holding an eponymous invitational for Squat, OHP, Dead. I know you won't, but it would be fun if you did:

  14. First time listening. You two make a good team for this.

More discussion about things that took your training or lifts to the next level would be great. Like the talk about paused benches. Tactics you guys have employed to bust the shit out of plateaus / sticking points in the general sense.

  15. You have at least one female listener, my wife. She has a question..."What is the average number of blowjobs you get on podcasts? IS it all he same girl giving you multiple blowjobs? Or different girls every time"

Also im about to have a kid. When, in your opinion, is the youngest you can start training a kid. When they start walking?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hahaha. That was the first.

As to your kid question, I'd not push the issue. From what I've seen they'll come to you when they're ready to lift. The Chinese stress gymnastics for young weightlifting, so you could go that route. I'll get Paul's take on Sunday.

  16. A facebook page! You've changed man, haha. Just come back from a 30 mile hike and smashed out all the podcasts during that time. Shit is golden. That starting strength thing was hilarious, i lost count of the times you mentioned your rankings and yet they just carried on babbling.

Looking forward to the supps and seeing your Klokov results. God knows how Paul managed 185x9.

  17. Regarding your discussion on naval warfare, the U.S. Navy sunk half of the Iranian fleet in the 80's during the Iran/Iraq war.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran%E2%80%93Iraq_War#U.S._military_actions_toward_Iran

"On 14 April 1988, the frigate USS Samuel B. Roberts was badly damaged by an Iranian mine, wounding 10 sailors. U.S. forces responded with Operation Praying Mantis on 18 April, the United States Navy's largest engagement of surface warships since World War II. Two Iranian oil platforms were damaged, and five Iranian warships and gunboats were sunk."

    Thought you might dig it.

Thanks for the great content dude.

  19. For your Klokov presses, how wide are you going for your grip? I tried with hands against the collars and it felt like my wrists were going to snap. Bring it in 2 inches and it felt better.
