I tried doing overhead squat lockouts, going from moderate weight to semi-high weight (225-315 for sets of 3 usually), and I would feel like shit in my lower back for days. It was worse than doing heavy deads for hours on end, and it almost prevented me from squatting. I stopped doing them and just squatted every other day until the stiffness and pain went away. What the fuck was I doing wrong, or is it just something I shouldn't do? Nothing else made me feel like this. How can I incorporate these back into my lifting, or should I just continue the other stuff that works and forget them? For reference, I dead 500, squat 400, press 190.
Sounds like your lower back's too weak for that weight. Start lighter and work up to it as your back gets stronger.
