*Because I Fucking Can.

Today, I went into the gym with the intention of doing partial back squats, heavy. I brought my camera in case anything interesting was to happen, and it did. A buddy of mine saw my setup and joked that I was going to overhead press. We laughed about that, and then he said, "No, seriously. Front squats?" At that point, it occurred to me that I had never tried partial front squats, and that they'd certainly be more brutal than partial back squats. I was right. Hours later, my biceps, shoulders, traps, and thighs are still cramping like crazy. These are worth trying, if for no other reason than it's fun to try new shit, and because you can.

Other people who espouse partials, for those multitudinous naysayers and shit-talkers running amok on the internet:
  • Paul Anderson
  • Brooks Kubik
  • Hermann Goerner
  • Louie Simmons
... just to name a few. Try 'em, and you'll see the utility.

  2. I've done these before. I like them.
And I ripped a callous off doing deadlift lockouts with 855 today and I'm pissed off.

  3. Based on your recommendations I started doing partials for a lot of different things last week. Been really liking the squat lockouts, and I hate the bench lockouts, but that's because my bench sucks so bad and needs lots of improvement. I'll have to give this one a try too! I've been doing them at the end of my workouts, and I am a lot more sore and tired when I do a bunch of them as opposed to trying to squeeze one or two more sets of full motions in.

  6. no,Kubik is not gay and weak as fuck. His bottom position bench with 455lbs is heads and shoulders above half these fags doing belly button benching.

  7. Kubik never, ever did a bottom postion bench with 455, and barely scraped out a 400# in a shirt.

  10. As the bench is generally an unimpressive specialization lift in any event, I'm fairly unconcerned with his bench, though that is somewhat disheartening. Dinosaur Training is a seminal work in S&C though, and for that he should be lauded.

  11. Oh, and well fucking done, TomFlex! Now, what can we do about the state of your calves...

did I mention you should jump rope wearing a weighted vest? Br00tal on the calves.

  12. I count 170kg on that vid in plates.

    red ivanko = 25kg x4
    black iron plate = 20 kg x2
yellow bumper of that thickness is a composite, and looks like it's a 15kg.

    Kubiks is a known embellisher.

  13. "The human body can only process x (number given is usually 40, 50 or 60) number grams of protein at a time." Jamie, this is a claim I see bandied around a lot by people, usually bodybuilders. To me, it reeks of BroScience. Is there any validity to this claim or is it a load of wank? On the Weston A Price website, one of the articles talks about the nomadic Mongols eating up to 10 pounds of meat in a sitting. I'm having a hard time believing that 6 meals a day is any better than 3.

  14. you guys are way too into eating and lifting weight. Have you ever heard of running? It's an exercise too you bunch of silly geese. Whatever. I am like 135 and I bench like 155 so I'm technically stronger than most of you. That guy Steve Prefontaine had sex with chicks and he was skinny, thus you are all idiots.

  15. Hahahahaha. Running?

As for the broscience, there's never once been a study to support that supposition, which has prevailed in the face of both common sense and a wide array of studies. The most notable study was a recent French study that showed that elderly French women had higher nitrogen retention at 50g of protein/serving than they did at less than that. As for meal frequency, I'd still eat as many meals as possible to ensure your metabolism is running high, but shoot for 40-100g of protein per meal.

Crossfit Bill- you need to check out Irongarmx.net. They're a pack of hilarious assholes who spend way more time alternately lusting after crossfit chicks and mocking crossfitters than they do lifting.

  16. Actually there was a study supporting that...except that they all ate the same food and were on the same training regimen and they never had higher portions or ate over a longer period of time. They also don't explain how they "tracked absorption through the intestines". Clarence Bass is ripped, but some of his sources are retarded.

Also, for the record Brooks Kubik is actually pretty fucking strong and so happens to not train with bench shirts anymore (or for a pretty long while, if you hadn't noticed). If you'd ever read DT you'd realize that he pretty much thinks anyone who does so is a fucking moron these days.

Actually, I'm on the "dino training newsletter" and a recent one was about a guy who trained heavy six days a week into his fourties. Badass.
