Iron Sport Gym. Best Fucking Gym in the Northeast. Go there.

1.  It's is run by Mr. Incredible, who also happens to be a WSM competitor and Master's Highland Games National Champion.

2.  The gym is ridiculously well equipped.  He's got every Atlas Stone you could want, logs, chains, bands, and tires up to ~1000 lbs.
3. He's surly enough to compete with Red from That 70s Show, only funnier, and he might eat your children.
4.  No one will say shit if you slap the fuck out of some retard curling in the squat rack and accidentally pee on him, so long as you use the retard to mop up the pee.
5.  For all of you WWE marks, all of the WWE guys lift here when they're in town.  I've met Tony Atlas, Mark Henry, Kane, and a bunch of other guys I cannot even name because I stopped watching WWE in 1986 (TNA is the shit though).  The WWE guys are cool as fuck, however.
6.  There are national-level competitors and champions in bodybuilding, strongman, and powerlifting who train there, and they're all cool as fuck.  If you want to learn anything at all about training, that's the place to do it.
7.  It's not Planet Fitness, Gold's, Bally's, or any of the other chromed, cookie cutter, horseshit gyms populating the planet and driving real fucking gyms out of business.
Tell me he doesn't look like Mr. Incredible

So why am I bringing this up?  I'm bringing it up because there's currently a fucking holocaust going on in the gym industry, and every one of you motherfuckers who lives within 45 minutes of a real gym but trains at a bullshit gym out of convenience is no better than a jailer at a fucking death camp- you suck.  In your short-sightedness, you're consciously bringing about a future in which your choices will be limited to shit and suck, and you'll have to buy all of your equipment yourself, or risk setting off the lunk alarm upon entering Planet Fitness every day.  Stop fucking sucking and join a real gym- don't let these gyms die off because you want to save a couple of bucks on gas.  Your physique and future generations will benefit greatly from the tiny bit of extra effort you have to expend training at a real gym.
A real gym
So, Paul, get your fucking ass over to Iron Sport and stop being a bitch, and take some people with you.  This fitness bullshit has got to be stopped.

Awesome gyms where I've trained:
Iron Sport Gym Philadelphia, PA
SC Barbell Columbia, SC
Top Gym Vienna, Austria
Powerhouse Gym San Diego, CA
Some shithole gym in the middle of campus at Renmin Daxue Beijin, China

The rest, like World's in Tucson and Black's in Cleveland, are fucking closed, because people are assholes and don't support real gyms.

Feel free to add to the list in the comments, and if you're not training at a good gym, find one.

  1. Hahaha, you spelled Kane wrong. Mark Henry is a fucking badass though.

Also, Ken Leistner's gym would be completely awesome if he didn't eat, shit, and breath HIT-style programs (in that order.) The amount of insane shit they do there is fucking awesome though.

Bob Whelan's, not so much because they mostly have light dumbbells, wrist rollers, sandbags and MACHINES. The man believes that every program could use a heavy dose of machine isolation and I've got no idea why because everything he does that isn't revolving around machines is basically training gold.

Sorry, this is more like two gyms to avoid if you're a C&P adherent.

  2. Where I live fitness clubs run supreme. I will never step foot in any of them. So I just bought a power rack, Olympic bar, and am now looking for bumper plates (if anyone has any recommendations for a cheap bastard, get at me).

  3. check out Fletcher's House of Power in Baton Rouge, LA. championship lifters like Wade Hooper lift here, and it is run by a former champion, the eponymous Paul Fletcher himself. the only machines in the place are a couple of leg press machines, a leg extension setup, and a broken down bike that the big boys use to make weight for meets. oh, and a pulldown station.

  4. At least most of you guys have a choice of gyms. Where i live (isle of wight, UK) there are 2. One is part of a multiplex type place that does swimming etc so yu can imagine it's just full of treadmills and yoga classes and the other one has no rack, one bench, dumbbells going up to 40kg and a 5 foot barbell set that goes to 100kg!

Hence i boycotted those shit holes and set up a piss and sawdust type place in my garden where me and friends train, racks, bars, bumpers, chalk, strongman shit and of course a bar and bbq. Hopefully in the near future i'd like to open my own place that follows suit to my garden gym but this island is full of pussies and slobs so i'd probably lose a shit load of cash, but as you can imagine being in the UK training in the rain sucks ass haha.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Nope. I trained at the Powerhouse, at USD's gym, and at the Gold's by 5 a couple of times. I didn't even know Stern's was there. I assume that's Leo Stern?

  21. A lot of small colleges have solid gyms, that is if they're small enough that they have to have their football team train in the same weight room as everybody else. Mine (Millsaps in Jackson MS) has more bumper plates than regular plates, plenty of power racks on platforms and dumbbells up to 150, plus some football specific machines that are actually useful. Best of all, the student employees can't enforce any rules.

  22. They posted an article about Iron Sport on EliteFTS, that place looks like the fucking mecca of strength training. All the platforms, racks, strongman shit...honestly that place looks fucking amazing. I also thought I read a comment by him where he said membership is $30 a month? That's a fucking steal. I wish I lived in the area.
